FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I sign up? What's my level? Are books included in the course fee?

We tried to answer some of the most frequently asked questions regarding our courses. We recommend reading the FAQ's first before signing up for our courses. If you special questions or would like to receive further details, please feel free to drop us a line! Please write to: hello@transmitter-berlin.de

→ How much does a course cost?

An intensive course (48 lessons of 45 minutes each) costs 275 Euro. A regular evening course (24 lessons of 45 minutes each) costs 175 Euro. Our conversation course (16 lessons of 45 minutes) costs 115 Euro.

→ What is the scope of your courses?

The intensive courses take place 4 times a week, with three lessons of 45 minutes each per day, over the period of four weeks. The evening classes take place twice a week, and consist of two 45-minute lessons per day, over the period of six weeks.

→ How can I register?

To learn more about how to register, please click on "Register” in the menu on top of this page.

→ Will I get my money back if I have already registered and can't come?

You can cancel your booking up to 21 days before the course start without a cancellation fee. Between 21 days and 10 days before the course start the cancellation fee is 50 euros for intensive courses / 30 euros for evening courses. After that there is no refund.

→ What books do you work with?

The market for textbooks is large and covers different language levels and target groups. Since we want to remain independent, we do not have contracts with any textbook publishers.

However, we always work with standard textbooks that meet the needs of our students most. Accordingly, our textbooks vary depending on the language level.

We will let you know about which book you will have to purchase for your course in an info email, which we send to all students in the week before the start  of your course.

→ Is the textbook included in the price?

No, the textbook is not part of the course fee.

→ Where can I buy my textbook?

We work with standard textbooks that are available in every bigger bookstore. You can buy the book at your local bookshop or order it online. We recommend our favourite bookstore "BuchHafen" in Okerstraße, Neukölln.

→ Can I pay for the courses with a “Bildungsgutschein”?

We do not accept “Bildungsgutscheine”. The courses are usually paid for by the students themselves. It will be your responsibility to have the costs of the course reimbursed by the appropriate organization.

→ Will I receive a certificate at the end?

Each student will receive a certificate of attendance at the end of the course, provided that he/she has completed 80% of the course.

→ Do I get a "Study Preparation Visa" with your courses?

Please contact the Embassy of your country for the current visa conditions. Our courses usually cover 12-16 lessons of 45 minutes per week. Intensive and evening courses can also be combined with one-to-one lessons or grammar courses.

→ I need a freelancer/artist visa. Can I take courses with you?

The number of lessons offered here should normally be sufficient for this type of visa. However, we cannot give any guarantees, because the issuing of visas is very individual and regulations can change. Please check with the authorities responsible for your visa.

→ I'd like to study later. Do your courses prepare me for the exams?

Our courses prepare you optimally for all common language tests and train you in all necessary skills such as reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar. However, our courses are not special exam preparation courses.

→ I have already studied German in the past. What level do I have?

We recommend taking a placement test before enrolling to make sure you are enrolled in the right course. There are many reliable online tests on the internet - e. g. the online test of Volkshochschule: https://vhs-brb.de/onlinetest/

→ Do you have your own placement test?

There are numerous tests online to determine your language level, e. g. the test of Volkshochschule. We would be happy to invite you to a personal consultation, in which we can also assess your oral expression skills and help you to choose the right course.

→ What happens on public holidays?

Our courses do not take place on public holidays. In this case number of units per course is reduced. If there are two holidays in one course round, one of the two course days will be shifted to a date within the course round.

→ I'm only here for 3 weeks. Can I book courses on a weekly basis or can I get a discount or book parts of a course?

Only on the condition that there are still vacancies. In this case, however, the decision can only be made one day before the course starts.

Courses are usually only bookable as full courses (4 or 6 weeks); in exceptional cases - if there are still places available - it is also possible to book parts of a course. Unfortunately, there are no discounts for students or unemployed people.

→ I would like to speak to you personally

→ Do you provide accommodation?

No. We specialise in teaching German as a foreign language (DaF) and do not offer any other services.
