If you’ve recently signed up for one of our German courses, the next thing to do is to buy the correct course books and workbooks for class!

When you’re new to Berlin or to speaking German, it can be a bit overwhelming to find a bookstore you can reliably find your books in. So we’ve made a list of our tried-and-true favourites, in which you can find your course books and probably most of your other literary needs.

Where can I buy my German Language course and work books in Berlin?

First and foremost, a bookshop list from us would be incomplete if we didn’t mention Buchhafen, in our old neighbourhood of Schillerkiez in Neukölln. For a long time now we’ve been working with Enis who will know exactly which book you need and permanently has stock available! Buchhafen also offers a neatly curated selection of a variety of books and new publications in different languages, if you feel like shopping for more books.

For those not in Neukölln, the bigger bookstores, such as Dussman or Hugendubel, will also offer a large range of language books, including the Menschen and Schritte books we use here in our German courses at Transmitter! Hugendubel has a store in Neukölln Arcaden and one in the Karstadt department store at Hermannplatz. The Kulturkaufhaus Dussmann is also definitely worth checking out for their wide range of literature, music, stationery and cultural events if you are in Mitte.

Some other nice bookshops in our neighbourhood to browse when you have some free time outside of class are die gute Seite in Richardplatz, Rixdorf, Stadtlichter at Maybachufer, Neukölln, or for special interest, check out Andenbuch and LangerBlomqvist, both of which are close to our new location in Bergmannkiez.

Happy book shopping!
