HANNO'S CULINARY TIPS: SOUTHERN GERMAN FOOD

If you want to have a proper German food experience - there are a whole bunch of places around Transmitter to meet your friends for a nice German meal after class. Here are the ones we can especially recommend:

Schwabylon serves food from "Schwabenländle", a southern German region around the city of Stuttgart. It is a hip version of the equally affordable “Spätzle Express” on Wiener Straße and serves rich, tasty Swabian dishes such as Linsen & Spätzle or the Southern German version of Gulasch. As a native “Schwabe” from Stuttgart, I can totally recommend this place. (Pannierstraße 9, www.schwabylon-berlin.de)

Schwammerl serves modern Bavarian and Austrian feel-good food such as Schnitzel, Obatzta (a creamy paste made out of different cheeses), grilled chicken and Knödel in a modern interior at affordable prices. A great place to spend a cozy night over a Hefeweizen, a typical Southern German beer. (Weichselstraße 55, www.schwammerl-berlin.de)

Gasthaus Valentin offers Bavarian food, but has a more traditional flair with wooden furniture and the typical decoration of a German “Wirtshaus”. Valentin serves both smaller snacks like Leberkäse and full meals like Geschnetzeltes and is especially popular amongst beer drinkers because it serves the very popular Bavarian “Augustiner” beer. (Hasenheide 59, Valentin on FB)

Knödelwirtschaft offers, as its name implies, Austrian/Southern German Knödel in different styles: From a more traditional version with cheese and bacon to the more updated variation with peppers and goat cheese. Knödelwirtschaft is a great place for a nice lunch - just don’t underestimate the size of the dishes, those Knödel are more filling that you might expect! (Fuldastraße 33, www.knoedelwirtschaft.de)
