Join Luisa in our March excursion to the Bethanien Arts Quarter next Friday, March 13.

Bethanien is a former monastery and hospital on the outskirts of Kreuzberg, which for a long time was located directly on the Berlin Wall. Parts of Bethanien became known in the 70s and 80s as the occupied Rauch-Haus (‘Smoke House’), where Kreuzbergers protested against the already tense living situation in their neighborhood. This movement became particularly famous via the musician Rio Reiser and his punk rock band, Ton Steine Scherben.

Today, the Bethanien Arts Quarter houses galleries, the Kreuzberg music school, a media workshop and studios, an open-air cinema in the summer and, of course, a wonderful café. Bethanien is also the venue for many art festivals.

We will meet next Friday at 4 p.m. in front of the main entrance of the art quarter at Mariannenplatz 2. If the weather is fine, we will first be able to explore the area around the main building, including the Rauch-Haus and the small garden. Afterwards, we will visit the free exhibition, which opened during the CTM Festival for experimental and electronic music. In the exhibition INTERSTITIAL SPACES, everything revolves around the tension between concrete spaces in togetherness, in politics, culture and society and the in-between, the niches and interspaces, the places of transit.

Afterwards we will end the day in the 3 Schwestern Café.

Here you will find the information about our trip to Künstlerhaus Bethanien at a glance:
